About Medway Churches Night Shelter (MCNS)

MCNS is an informal organisation established by Churches Together in Medway in the space of just 2 months prior to Christmas 2015. The motivation is a desire to show love and compassion to the homeless in Medway. The project provides a rolling night shelter with 12 bed spaces every night from January to March 2016 – guests sleep at a different church venue each night. More than 100 volunteers drive, move the equipment from church to church, cook, serve and sit with our homeless guests who come to us for accommodation, food and friendly company. We believe in providing a high quality and compassionate service to our homeless guests many of whom have a range of support needs, such as alcohol dependency and mental health issues.

Strood Community Project acts as an Umbrella Body for MCNS for the 2016 season. We intend to recruit a Winter Shelter Coordinator to work closely with each venue Team Leader and to ensure the smooth running of the shelters.

How to apply

Applicants should send a CV with the names, addresses and telephone details of 2 referees, and a covering letter outlining why they would be suitable for the job. The successful applicant will be offered fixed term temporary contract for the night shelter season.

Please email the documents noted above to  paul@stroodcommunityproject.org.uk to arrive by Friday 22nd January 2016 at 12 noon.

Interviews will take place 26th January 2016 and will include a short IT assessment. Applicants will need to be available to start at very short notice.

Employment is subject to the provision of adequate references.

The rate of pay includes a supplement of £1/hr in lieu of holiday pay. MCNS would not anticipate that leave (other than emergency leave) would be applied for during the employment period.

MCNS encourages applicants from all sections of the community.
